West Berkshire care home closed after failing all care and welfare standards
According to a report published by the Care Quality Commission this week, Chacedene care home, Heath Road, Southend Bradfield, a small bungalow which could accommodate three people, has failed to meet all care and welfare standards. The care home is understood to have closed last Friday.
West Berkshire Council raised concerns about the care home, which can accommodate up to three people with learning disabilities and is owned by Atlas Project Team, last year, following a report by the Care Quality Commission.
In response the care services regulator carried out another inspection, with the findings now released for publication.
The report states that the care home was not meeting any of the six care and welfare standards, including safeguarding people who use the services from abuse and supporting staff.
The report states: "The provider had not ensured that staff had received appropriate training or support to ensure they were able to meet the needs of the people who used the service." It adds: "The numbers of staff on duty were not sufficient to safely meet the needs of people living in the home."
A spokesperson for Atlas Project Team said: “We acknowledge that the CQC have raised concerns about the standards of care in the homes and identified areas of practice that are not acceptable and that needs to be changed.”
Executive councillor for Community Care in West Berkshire, Joe Mooney (Con, Birch Copse), said yesterday (Wednesday) that he made unannounced visits to every care home in the district between July and September last year, and said he understood that Chacedene care home closed last Friday, February 24.
He said: “We will not tolerate providers not providing what we have contracted them for.
“No care is cheap nowadays and we have to make sure people are properly looked after.
“It’s rather sad that we keep seeing these cases cropping up.”
