West Berkshire Citizens Advice toast 50 years




WEST Berkshire Citizens Advice raised more than £2,000 by holding a dinner to mark 50 years’ service in the district.
Newbury MP Richard Benyon cut the anniversary cake and gave, his speech highlighting the importance of the charity’s work.
The event at Newbury and Crookham Golf Club, was attended by a number of local dignitaries, including Deputy Lord Lieutenant Christina Hill Williams, the chairman of West Berkshire Council, Keith Chopping, Newbury mayor Anthony Pick, and Thatcham mayor Mike Cole.
The current chairman of trustees, Mike Harris, and six other trustees were also present, along with chief executive Jan Rothwell and two of her predecessors, Bob King and Tricia Griffiths.
Mr Harris said: “This was a wonderful celebratory event, marking 50 years of continuous service to the people of Newbury and the surrounding area.
“People often fail to realise that West Berkshire Citizens Advice is a local charity and we have to raise our own funds to keep the service going each year.
“We are grateful to our volunteer advisers for all the efforts they make in helping local people find solutions to their problems and to all those who give us financial support to maintain our services.”
