West Berkshire Council announce shake-up of executive




New portfolios created and others assigned to different councillors

WEST Berkshire Council has announced a new-look Executive - a group of councillors which look after each of the council's main areas and help make key decisions.

The Executive is made up of a group of up to ten councillors who each have responsibility for important aspects of the council and the services it provides including finance, strategy, highways, transport and children's services.

At a meeting last night it was announced there would be nine members of the Executive; eight members remained in the group and who also welcomed Councillor James Fredrickson to its' ranks.

Speaking about the reshuffle, Councillor Roger Croft, Council Leader, said: "As Leader I'm very pleased to have supporting me a group who bring to their roles experience, enthusiasm and, most importantly, a passion for our local communities and the services they rely upon.

"Whilst we know there will be tough decisions ahead we will together strive to deliver the council priorities around education, affordable housing, local infrastructure, safeguarding and supporting our communities."

The new-look executive is as follows:

Roger Croft - Leader of the Council, Strategy & Performance and Finance

Graham Jones - Deputy Leader, Health & Wellbeing, Devolution

James Fredrickson - Communications, Democratic & Electoral Services, Finance Assurance, Legal, Human Resources, ICT

Marcus Franks - Partnerships, Equality, Community Safety, Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Waste, Customer Services

Dominic Boeck - Education, Property, Broadband

Alan Law - Planning, Economic Development, Regeneration, Pensions

Garth Simpson - Highways, Transport, Emergency Planning

Hilary Cole - Adult Social Care, Housing, Countryside, Community Culture & Leisure Services

Lynne Doherty - Children's Services

For the first time broadband has been added as a specific portfolio area in recognition of its' importance to local residents, businesses and schools.

The Executive meet around every six weeks and meetings are open to the public. As well as following council business anyone living or working in West Berkshire can ask questions of the Executive and present petitions.
