The first ever national Thank You Day – set to be staged on Sunday, July 4 – is being endorsed by West Berkshire Council.

For the event, people in the district and across the country are being encouraged to host Covid-secure picnics, barbecues and outdoor parties.

Council leader Lynne Doherty (Con, Newbury Speen) said: "We are absolutely delighted to support the first ever national Thank You Day and encourage residents to recognise any person or group of people who have made a difference to those who have found lockdown periods particularly difficult.

"The Covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated the strength and kindness not just of West Berkshire residents but those who live across the country and national Thank You Day is a great way to mark this national achievement."
