West Berkshire duo in prestigious dog agility competition
The Kennel Club Olympia Agility Stakes, which started on Monday (December 17) and finishes on Sunday (December 23), takes place at Olympia in London.
Dave Munnings (pictured top right) from Newbury is competing with Border Collie, Boss, while Jenny Lovegrove from Tilehurst is competing with Guvnor, also a Border Collie, both in the novice agility stakes.
Ms Lovegrove (pictured bottom right) said qualifying with
Guvnor meant a lot to her, as when he was a puppy he contracted the life-threatening illness, tetanus.
“Luckily he is a very focused dog, quick to learn and we gradually started to catch up with the training and his confidence, both of which had taken a big knock,” Ms Lovegrove said. “Guv did everything I asked of him in qualifying - he is one special little boy and very much loved.”
Mr Munnings said Boss had been waiting for the semi finals since qualifying earlier in the year: “He’s a really sweet dog and I’m very excited about competing at Olympia with him - I think he'll really enjoy it,” added Mr Munnings.
Dogs and their owners compete in five finals, in the small, medium, large, novice and ABC (Anything But Collies) categories.
Kennel Club Secretary, Caroline Kisko said: “The Olympia Agility Stakes is one of the major dog agility events in the UK each year and provide a real spectacle in the run up to Christmas. We would like to congratulate Dave and Jenny and look forward to what is set to be another exciting final.”
