West Berkshire gears up for Olympics

Performances and events to be held under the ‘West Berkshire – Enjoy!’ ahead of the 2012 Games

A MAJOR programme of cultural and sporting events in West Berkshire has been launched as the district gears up for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Four of the district's favourite mascots – echoing the mascots that launched London 2012 – were at Tilehurst's Cotswold Leisure Centre on Monday to pose for the cameras, show off the new logo, and announce just some of the events to be held under the ‘West Berkshire – Enjoy!' brand.

Modo the West Berks schools' Olympic mascot, Tickles the Tiger from Northcroft Leisure Centre, Theo the Bear from Theale Green and Kat Bear from Cotswold Leisure Centre all appeared.

From large-scale public performances, to sporting events, festivals and local fetes and fairs, next year will see residents and visitors alike taking in a range of activities in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the Olympic and Paralympic Games and national festivals for London 2012.
