West Berkshire group supports Dyslexia Awareness Week

The association has this week been celebrating the success of young and not so young dyslexic people.
Those affected by dyslexia and supported by the association include James Callicott, a 17 year old dyslexic garden designer, sponsored by Pauline Sheppard, one of the association’s members.
James won a bronze medal at RHS Hampton Court Flower Show this year, for his garden: This is me, which examines the effect dyslexia can have on an individual and was featured on the BBC coverage of the show.
An enclosed seating area represented the sense of isolation that can be felt by dyslexic people and a multi-stemmed tree showed the many routes dyslexics can take in life.
“James shows great talent and it was a huge achievement to produce such a beautiful and professional garden and hopefully he has a bright future in garden design,” said Lyn Pounds, a spokeswoman for the association.
West Berkshire Dyslexia Association’s Saturday School has closed, due to economic pressures, but the association is still providing information and support to parents and dyslexic adults.
