West Berkshire jam-packed with culture, fetes and sport today (Sat)





Fete season is well underway and today is jam-packed.
Here are the highlights:
Francis Baily Centenary Summer Fair takes place in Skillman Drive, Thatcham from 11.30am until 2.30pm.
Beenham Festival takes place from 12pm until 5pm.
Thatcham Park Primary School fete takes place from 11.30am until 2pm and Cold Ash St Mark’s School fete is on from 1pm until 4.30pm.
The fifth annual CultureFest, organised by the West Berkshire Minority Ethnic Forum, takes place at The Racecourse, Newbury from 12pm until 4pm.
Everyone is invited to the free event where they can try their hand at something new like Scottish dancing, French and British dances or Egyptian belly dancing as well as watch performances of Chinese lion dance, percussion drumming with the Drumrunners, street dance, South Indian dance, Gael music, and Jamaican folk songs.
For all sports fans, Thatcham II take on Eversley II in cricket at Brownsfield Road and Hungerford II take on Purbrook II at Hungerford Cricket Club.
Inspire West Berkshire will also be offering a free watersports taster day at the Berkshire Sail Training Centre.
The event, being held in partnership with Get Berkshire Active, is aimed at encouraging people to try new activities and find out about the clubs and activities available in their local area.
Finally in the evening, Opera for All takes place at Newbury Racecourse.
Opera Brava will perform The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for opera fans and picnickers alike at the Grandstand.
