West Berkshire Mencap hold Garden Party

Charity hosts event to celebrate its work helping others

WEST Berkshire Mencap supporters gathered at a garden party on Monday afternoon to celebrate another year of the charity’s work in helping local children and adults with learning disabilities.

The event was held in the charity’s sensory garden at Enborne Gate and enabled staff, service users and volunteers to showcase the different kinds of support on offer.

Guests included Newbury mayor Julian Swift-Hook, West Berkshire Council chairman Quentin Webb, and the president of Newbury Rotary Club, Graeme Leech.

As well as tours of the facilities, guests were treated to afternoon tea, musical entertainment from East Woodhay Silver Band and were given the chance to see the Playscheme in action.

West Berkshire Mencap chief executive Leila Ferguson said: “Thanks to incredible support, West Berkshire Mencap improves the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families.

“Our annual social gathering is our way of showing our gratitude to everyone for their hard work and support.

“Despite the rain, we had a great turnout and a lovely afternoon.”
