West Berkshire Mencap unveils new Mulberry Therapeutic Garden

A new therapeutic garden has opened in Newbury.

West Berkshire Mencap unveiled its Mulberry Therapeutic Garden on October 29 at its site at the Mencap Centre Enborne.

This was made possible by a donation of £40,000 from the Sue Ryder Foundation Ireland.

West Berkshire Mencap chief executive Sara Vaughan and deputy mayor of Newbury Andy Moore cut the ribbon and declared the garden officially open.

The Mulberry Garden uses gardening to help people with a learning disability feel more positive about themselves.

They can grow plants and vegetables in its polytunnels and outdoors in its raised beds.

West Berkshire Mencap said its garden manager Eli Harris has worked tirelessly with her team to get the garden ready for the opening and managed to win awards at the same time.

After the official opening, guests were invited to taste a Mulberry cocktail while chancing their luck on a tombola.
