West Berkshire residents recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours List





Clerk of Kintbury Parish Council for 33 years, Chris Trigwell has been given the Britsh Empire Medal for services to the community in Kintbury.
The 67-year-old, who lives in the village with his wife, Rosemary, has also volunteered for the Bruce Trust for 19 years, directed and performed in a number of plays in the village with the Kintbury Players, and is former chairman of the parents-teachers association at St Mary’s School, Kintbury.
The father of four, who also has eight grandchildren, said he cannot wait to celebrate with his family.
“When I was told I thought someone was having fun with me.
“It was a surprise, then shock, but it’s had time to sink in now.
“I’m very pleased to receive the award,” he added.
Mr Trigwell is waiting to hear when and where he will be presented with his medal, but has also been invited to the Queen’s garden party at Buckingham Palace next year.
Meanwhile, chief executive of Sovereign Housing Association, Ann Santry has been named a Commander of the British Empire.
“I am surprised and thrilled,” said the chief executive.
“Whilst it is a tremendous honour to receive this award, it is really recognition of the hard work, determination and effort displayed by everyone at Sovereign. We have a great bunch of talented people who are dedicated to providing housing solutions; this is as much their award as it is mine.”
Also on the honours list is consultant ophthalmic surgeon at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, Reading, Brenda Billington for her services to ophthalmology.
Meanwhile, Professor Peter Roberts, lately head of plasma physics at AWE Aldermaston as been recognised for his services to the defence industry.
Gloria Keene has also been honoured for her services to the community in Inkpen.
