West Berkshire Rotary clubs present cheque to local charity
Bruce Trust receives £1,500
THREE presidents assembled in Thatcham to present a cheque to a local charity recently.
Thatcham Rotary Club invited fellow Rotary presidents from Newbury and Hungerford, Cath Nurse and Bruce Mayhew, to a presentation at the Regency Park Hotel.
The three clubs each donated £500 to The Bruce Trust, which provides canal boat holidays for disabled, disadvantaged or elderly people.
The trust’s founder, David Bruce, explained how they had provided short holidays to people who, because of a variety of difficulties, would be unable to get away from it all without the specialist care and facilities that the trust provides.
Mr Bruce thanked the three clubs for their contributions, which would enable more than 1,000 people to enjoy the pleasures of “messing about in boats”.
Mr Bruce, who is the chairman of West Berkshire Brewery, said that the proceeds from the sale of his micro brewery helped to start the trust which has gone from strength to strength.
The president of Thatcham Rotary Club, Ron Howard, thanked the Newbury and Hungerford Rotarians.
He added that the presentation illustrated Rotary’s desire to make a genuine difference to their local communities.
