Resounding "no" from West Berks residents to Alternative Vote
WEST Berkshire has given an emphatic response to calls for an alternative method of selecting its MP: No.
Of the 55,064 people who voted, 39,235 voted no to AV, some 71.5 per cent.
15,637 people voted yes.
The turnout in West Berkshire was calculated at 48.69 per cent.
The result mirrors the same outcome around the country, as the first past the post system remains the preferred method of voting in the UK.
The No camp passed 9.8 million voters nationside at around 7.30pm, meaning it had more than 50 per cent of the votes needed to clinch victory.
