West Berkshire secondary schools beat national average in latest tables

According to tables released by the Department for Education today the local authority achieved 61.1 per cent for pupils gaining five A*-C GCSEs including English and mathematics this year, compared to the England average of 53.4 per cent.
This national average is higher than the all-schools tally when counting state schools separately – which represents an average of 56.6 per cent.
Nearby Hampshire saw 58.9 per cent of its pupils make the government’s gold standard, and Reading achieved 59.3 per cent, Oxfordshire 59.4, Bracknell Forest 57, with only Wokingham and Slough higher achieving 66.3 and 69.2 per cent respectively.
The top school for the area was independent school St Gabriel’s at 95 per cent, and at the bottom of the table is John O Gaunt School who recently announced the closure of its sixth form, with only 48 per cent of students achieving the five A*-C GCSE’s.
For the first time performance tables only took into account a pupils “first entry” and not GCSE re-sit grades for English baccalaureate subjects for the 2014 figures, sparking calls for an "alternative performance tables" by school leader groups.

The full table is included below and is ranked according to schools achieving 5 GCSE’s at A*-C in English and mathematics. Average point score of A-level progress is based on A/AS entries taken by students at the end of A-level study.
“Value added” progress is a measure of the progress made between KS4 and KS5 results.
