West Berkshire women complete 'Moonwalk' through London
Thousands of pounds raised from charity walk through capital
NINE West Berkshire women have raised thousands of pounds for charity by walking through the streets of London.
The Moonwalk event encourages both men and women to walk through the capital in decorated bras, to raise money and awareness of breast cancer. The event started in Clapham Common on Saturday evening and returned there on Sunday morning. Participants could choose to walk a full marathon (26.2 miles) or half-marathon (13.1 miles).
Maria Davidson, Elaine Canniffe, Lorraine Murrell and Lucy Hutchins, all from Newbury, walked the full marathon, raising more than £2,800 for charity.
“At four in the morning, with 13 miles still to go, cold, tired and weary, it was time to dig deep,” said Mrs Murrell.
“That’s when grit, friendship and encouragement kicked in. Not forgetting the real difference we were making to the lives of those living with breast cancer, we were also thinking about our friends who have so generously supported our fundraising.”
The foursome completed the overnight epic after nine hours of non-stop walking.

Caroline Cunliffe, Karen Grumbt, Karen Jones, Helen Williamson and Nicky Wood – The Norks – from Newbury and Thatcham, also walked the 26.2 miles.
Mrs Wood, who was taking part for the second time, said it had been a tough challenge but the party atmosphere and camaraderie had kept them going. They left Clapham Common at around 11pm and crossed the line at around 8am.
“It’s a fantastic thing to do. We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer and this event provides the opportunity to raise money for a great cause as well as get fit and have fun with friends,” she said.
