West Wooday garden show blooms again
Thousands of people are expected to attend the popular show, which sees the Inigo Jones house, home of Harry and Sarah Henderson, open for one weekend every two years to raise money for local charities.
The event will begin with an invite only gala preview evening on Friday evening with a Rifle Brigade Band march beating the retreat while guests enjoy wine and canapés.
The main show days will run from 10am-5pm and there will be a host of horticultural hints and tips, including a talk from BBC gardening presenter and author, Steve Brookes.
As well as live music from a number of brass bands, the event will also see the over 60s play their way into the older musician of the year final on Sunday, organisied by Southern Sinfonia.
There will also be enough to keep children busy on Sunday, with a bouncy castle and other activites being provided by Sharky and George while the grown-ups bid in the silent auction.
Over 6,000 visitors raised over £62,000 while viewing the five lakes, walled garden, rose garden and arboretum at the last show in 2011.
This year’s show is in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund, the Berkshire Community Foundation and the Newbury Agricultural Society, as well as local churches and charities.
Entry is £6 for adults with free admission for those under 15 years old.
