Christian Louboutin high heels and a robot dog – some of the items left in Newbury Travelodge hotel rooms

A pair of mannequin legs wearing Christian Louboutin high heels, paperwork for the purchase of a racehorse and a robot dog were just some of the items left in Newbury hotel rooms last year.

Hotel chain Travelodge released the details of some of the more unusual items left behind in its 582 hotels, in its lost and found audit 2022.

The top 10 items left in its Newbury premises – which includes hotels at Tot Hill, Chieveley and on London Road – were a large vintage Lyons Maid sign; a Power Puppy robot dog, a pair of mannequin legs wearing Christian Louboutin high heels; a Hindu wedding turban with a ruby stone; paperwork for the purchase of a racehorse; a light up neon wall art display saying ‘ooh la la’; a set of four matching family personalised Christmas onesies; a men’s tweed three piece suit and baker boy cap; a diamond and platinum eternity ring; and a contract to buy a beauty business.

The hotel chain said the 2022 inventory report revealed a “high volume of royal and patriotic memorabilia” being left behind at Travelodge hotels.

This included enough Union Jack flags left behind to run across the breadth of London.

During the last 12 months, staff have also seen an increasing number of wedding items and gifts being left behind at the hotels, the report showed.

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge Spokeswoman said: “With nearly 19 million customers annually staying at our 580 UK Travelodge hotels, including our hotels in Newbury, for thousands of different reasons, we do get a range of interesting items left behind.

“During 2022, this included a Power Puppy Robot Dog, a pair of mannequin legs wearing a pair of Christian Louboutin high heels, paperwork for the purchase of a racehorse and a diamond and platinum eaternity ring.

“Interestingly the 2022 lost and found audit also revealed that we are a nation striving for a healthy lifestyle as we have seen a significant rise in smart watches being left behind in our Travelodge hotels during the last 12 months.

“When it comes to why so many of our customers forget their treasured items, it’s basically due to us all being time poor, juggling multiple tasks and being in a hurry to get from A to B. In the rush, valuable possessions are easily forgotten.”

The top 10 items left behind in 2022 were chargers for mobile phones and electronic devices such as laptops; mobile phones, tablets and Kindles; smart watches; business papers, notepads and presentations; books; teddy bears; toiletry bags and their contents; jewellery; clothing; toys; and gifts and presents.

All items left behind in Travelodge hotels - which have not been claimed within three months - are donated to the local British Heart Foundation Charity Shops, Travelodge’s nominated charity partner.
