Newbury Town Council requesting residents' memories of Victoria Park bandstand ahead of refurbishment

Newbury Town Council is asking residents to share memories they have of Victoria Park’s bandstand before it gets refurbished next year.

The much-loved Newbury landmark – that has stood since 1937 – still hosts a full programme of musical events throughout the summer.

The town council has successfully raised the £27,715 it needed to replace the bandstand’s roof. It hopes to complete the project in time for the 2023 summer season.

Chair of Newbury Town Council’s community services committee Sarah Slack (Lib Dem, Wash Common) said: “We would love to hear your memories of the bandstand.

“Perhaps you performed there for a special event, or maybe you are a regular each summer when the bands are playing, or do you even have some old photographs?

“We will be creating a page on our website to showcase memories and photographs of the bandstand in days gone by and would love for you to get involved.”

Anyone with memories and photographs of the bandstand can email towncouncil@newbury.gov.uk or contact Newbury Town Council by post or hand delivery to the town hall.

Ms Slack added: “With all the refurbishment that we have completed in the park over the last few years, it will be super to see the bandstand back to its best and the new café project due to open in 2023 as the icing on the cake, we very much look forward to residents enjoying the park for years to come.”
