What else was on at Newbury Show?

Crowds of visitors gathered round to experience the many exciting offerings at Newbury Show over the weekend.

It was all very busy at the Army Zone on Sunday, with groups of little ones taking part in obstacle courses, dressing up and scaling a climbing wall.

George and Harry, from Kintbury, enjoyed their time behind the wheel of a lorry, while their family waited below, pausing for a moment’s respite.

And what else did they plan to see?

"The kids want to see the tractors and also the LandRovers,” said Christina Bravery.

"I want to see everything,” added Lesley Bravery, a loyal visitor to the show. “It's nice to see it buzzing. I think it’s great it has opened again. I've been quite a few times."

A lot was also going on in the Vintage Area, from steam-powered agricultural machinery demonstrations to vintage vehicles passing through the field, leaving young onlookers in awe.

Speaking in the tractor area, Darcy commented about what else she was looking forward to exploring.

"I'm having a great time,” she said. “I'm looking forward to the animals.”

Another visitor, Archie, added: “I'm excited to see the tractors. I think it's my second time here.

“It's even better than before; I remember it being a lot smaller. But that was about six years ago."

On Saturday, two local teams of farmers faced off for Straw Wars in the main arena, racing to see which could safely stack and strap bales onto a trailer.

“It was good fun”, said Berkshire Farm Girl, Eleanor Gilbert, who presented the competition from 3pm until 4pm.

The first heat saw Billy Pike and James Hayes face off, followed by Mr Pike and George Stillwell.

Mr Pike came out on top in both competitions — celebrating with a burger and beer.
