What’s on in West Berkshire and North Hampshire over Easter bank holiday




From Easter egg hunts to spring trails, here is what’s on over the bank holiday weekend.

Thursday, March 28

Newbury Spring Trail, Newbury, 10am – Follow the map and discover the hidden message to enter the prize draw. The trail forms around the area of Valley Road, Elizabeth Avenue, and the surrounding streets. Printed maps are £1 cash only from Fifth Road Stores.

Burghclere and Newtown WI Easter Coffee Morning, St Nicolas’s church, Newbury, 10am – 2pm – In aid of St John’s Ambulance and British Heart Foundation to fund lifesaving courses on CPR and defibrillator training. There will be a bric-a-brac stall, tombola and Easter cake raffle

Jubilee Garden Community Meet Up, Thatcham Town Council, 10.30 – 12.30pm

Parish café, Hamstead Marshall Village Hall, 2pm – 4pm, free - There could be chocolate coins and definitely chocolate easter eggs. Fillings for the rolls will have a Spring theme and perhaps simnel cakes may make a seasonal appearance.

Maundy Thursday Communion service, St Mary’s Church, Speen, 7.30pm

Maundy Thursday Service, Newbury Methodist Church, 7.30pm – The service will be led by Rosie Greenhalgh.

Friday, March 29

CTNA Good Friday Service, St Nicholas Church, 10.30am – This will be followed by Walk of Witness to Newbury Methodist Church where there will be a short service with hot cross buns and drinks to conclude.

Easter Market Egg Hunt, Thatcham Broadway, until 2pm - Head to the pet stall, follow the clues and collect the stamps to end with a delicious treat.

Good Friday An hour at the Cross, St Mary’s Church, Speen, 2pm

Legacy Dance, Kennet School, Thatcham, 7.30pm – 11.pm, entry £7.50 – Ballroom Sequence Latin and live music from Andrew Varley, attendees are asked to bring their own nibbles and drinks.

Sunday, March 31

Easter Sunday Communion service, St Mary’s Church, Speen, 10:30am

Celebration of Easter with Holy Communion, Newbury Methodist Church, 10.30am – Service will be led by the chairman of the Southampton District of the Methodist Church Rev. Andrew de Ville

Monday, April 1

Old Berkshire Hunt Point-to-Point, Lockinge, near Wantage, Oxfordshire, 2pm.
