What’s on in West Berkshire this week




Friday

National Shopmobility Awareness Day, outside WHSmiths on Northbrook Street, 10.30am to 2.30pm, free.

Shopmobility loans equipment which can be of benefit to those visiting Newbury who have restricted mobility. It is a service that is not widely known about and is hugely beneficial to the local community and those looking to visit the town.

Saturday

Newbury UN Association coffee morning, Town Hall, 10am to 12pm, free.

Welcome from the mayor.

Book sale, Wash Common Library, 10am to 12pm, free.

Ex library stock and nearly new books for sale.

Thatcham Teddyfest, St Mary’s Church, Saturday 10.30am to 4pm and Sunday 1pm and 4pm, free.

Display of knitted teddies created by church members and friends showcasing scenes from Thatcham. Children’s teddy activities, gifts and produce stalls and refreshments available. Display teddies for sale. Funds raised will be split jointly between Thatcham United Reformed Church and St Mary’s Church.

RAF Ramsbury D-Day Community Fair, Ramsbury Airfield, 11am to 3pm, free.

WW2 living history, military vehicles and aircraft. Live entertainment, licenced bar and food stalls. Local crafts and games. Raising money for Help for Heroes and Murphy's Army Animal charity.

Highclere Village Summer Fete, St Michael and All Angels Church, 12pm to 5pm, £3 for adults and under 16s go free.

Fete with a stilt walker, live music, falconry display, dog agility display, dog show, Downton Abbey dress-up competition, barbecue, refreshments, stalls and games. Free parking.

Chaddleworth Village Fete, Chaddleworth Village Hall, 12pm to 4pm, free.

Pangbourne Village Fete, Pangbourne Meadow, 12pm to 7pm, free.

Includes dragon boat racing on the River Thames.

Speen Fete, Speen Recreation Ground, 12.30pm to 4.30pm, children go free, 50p per adult and £1 per car.

Wild West-themed fete with a rodeo bull and line dancing alongside a photo booth, traditional stalls and games and a barbecue.

West Berkshire Community Hospital League of Friends concert, The Church of St George, The Martyr, 7.30pm, £15.

Hungerford Food and Artisan Market, Croft Field Centre, 10am to 1pm, free.

Local food and artisan stalls, live music, street food, plants and cooking demonstration.

Monday

Poetry group, Wash Common Library, 3pm to 4.30pm, free.

The topic is "peace and quiet". This is a very relaxed group that shares poems on the chosen topic and has interesting discussions.

Tuesday

Collection of aid for Ukraine, Chieveley Village Hall, 9am to 2pm.

Collecting aid such as medicine, medical supplies, hygiene products, toiletries, electronics, generators, tents, shoes, clothing, bedding, non-perishable food and more. Organised by the Help Ukraine Group Support (HUGS).

Wednesday

Berkshire Family History Society Newbury Branch meeting, West Berkshire Museum, 2pm to 4pm, free to members and £5 to non-members.

Join Sarah Roberts as she talks about the true story of her mother’s evacuation, as a child evacuee, during WW2. This led to Sarah retracing her family’s past, back to Huguenot descendants in rural East Kent, and onto modern day Portsmouth.

Thursday

Book club, Wash Common Library, 7.45pm to 9pm, free.

The book is American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. There are copies of the book in the library.
