What’s on in West Berkshire this week




Thursday

Rhyme Time for Toddlers, Wash Common Library, Glendale Avenue, 3pm, free.

Come and join us for songs, games and rhymes. Parents, carers and under 5s are welcome.

Friday

Peter’s disco, Royal British Legion, Pelican Lane, 8.30pm to 11pm.

Saturday

Bradfield Valentine market, Bradfield Southend Village Hall, 10am to noon, free.

Lots of stalls with snowdrops, local crafts as well as foodstuffs. Free entry and free parking. Refreshments also available.

Fundraising dance-a-thon, East Garston Village Hall, 11am to 11pm, £5.

Dance for as long (or little) as you like.

Cold Ash Brass concert, Thatcham Baptist Church, Wheelers Green Way, 7pm, adults £10 and children £5.

The concert titled ‘A Night at the Musicals’ will feature excerpts from musicals such as Wicked, The Sound of Music and The Blues Brothers. Light refreshments included.

Sunday

Weekly bingo night, Thatcham Rugby Club, 6.30pm.

£12 book of 6 games, £1 big money flyer, £1 looney special and £1 raffle strip. Bingo begins at 7.30pm Also selling different meals and cakes each week for affordable prices, and clothes to raise funds support the rugby club in getting new equipment so they can continue to support the community for free with veterans coffee mornings, NHS diabetes clinics and more.

Monday

Poetry group, Wash Common Library, Glendale Avenue, 3pm, free.

Poems will be shared on the uplifting theme of nature.

Newbury Association of the National Trust meeting, West Berks Bowls Club, Pyle Hill, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, £3.

Talk by Marie Louise Kerr entitled ‘Oxford Penicillin History’. A forgotten WW2 story of the development of penicillin by scientists in Oxford, and the wartime struggles to make the life-saving antibiotic.

Wednesday

Stockcross & Surroundings History Association talk, Sutton Hall, Church Road, 2pm, £5, free to members.

‘Hungerford in the 50s and 60s’, a talk by Dr Hugh Pihlens. Admission includes refreshments.
