Autumn walks beckon plus Hallowe'en themed entertainment

AN AUTUMN walk, Hallowe'en themed entertainment and sport are among today's (Sat) line-up in Newbury and beyond.

Newbury District Ornithological Club's morning walk at Speen Moors includes keeping a look out for autumn birds. Meet at Northcroft Leisure Centre car park 9am. A flat, easy walk for all abilities. All welcome but telephone 07796 605016 in advance.

In Woolton Hill, from 10am to 1pm, at St Thomas' Church Hall, the monthly village market returns. On offer will be fresh, local home-made, high welfare and seasonal produce. Arts, crafts, homeware and toys , plants and flowers will also be available, alongside hobbies, community groups and charities. Chance to stop for a chat over tea, coffee, home-made cakes and freshly cooked bacon rolls.

With 'fright night' in view, things that go bump in the night type storytelling, starts at 10am and also at 11am, at The Watermill, Bagnor. £5. Suitable for ages four to seven; children to be accompanied by an adult. Part of the theatre's Shriek Week.

Storytime for under five's also takes place today at Newbury library, in the wharf, from 2.30pm to 3pm.

For a cultural browse, the Ann Hoddinott art exhibition is open from 10am to 12pm at the New Era Theatre, St George’s Centre, Andover Road, Wash Common.

Rugby fans should head to Monks Lane for the 3pm start of a match which sees Newbury Blues take on Maidenhead.

Football fanatics should make for Kintbury recreation ground, for the 2.30pm kick off of a Kintbury versus Burghclere game.

This evening, the Hallowe'en theme continues with a murder mystery and meal, starting at 7pm at the Regency Park Hotel, Thatcham. Bell, Book & Scandal, is a 1920s theatrical thriller.
