What's on at the weekend: Newbury Town Hall open day, miniature trains, Classic cars, quiz, concerts and car boot sale




Here's a round up of things to do in West Berkshire and North Hampshire this weekend.

Saturday

Newbury Town Hall Family Open Day, 10am-12noon. As part of their 25th Anniversary Celebrations, Newbury Town Council is opening the doors to the Town Hall for the public to enjoy a Family Open Day. Families are invited to visit the Town Hall where they can meet the Mayor of Newbury, try on Councillor’s robes, sit in the Mayor’s Chair and learn about its history.

Open Day & Classic Car Show, Swings & Smiles, Lower Way, Thatcham, 12noon-3pm. Classic cars on show dating from the 1960s to the 1990s, in association with the White Horse Classic Vehicle Enthusiasts. Donations on the door for entry to the event and there is no need to book. As well as the classic cars on show there will also be refreshments and activities for children. All proceeds from the event will go towards our work supporting disabled children and their families.

Adderbury String Quartet & the Aldworth Giants, Aldworth Church, 7pm-9pm. Includes a talk by historian Chris Paterson on the Aldworth Giants. Tickets £17. Call 01635 578936 or 578239.

Quiz night, Community Centre, Wash Common, 7.30pm. 100 general knowledge questions, raffle, homemade refreshments. A friendly social event. £6 per team – maximum 5 in a team. In aide of Maureen Church Fund Royal Berkshire Hospital. Further information: call (01635) 33887.

Newbury Jazz Platform, Jazz on the Bandstand, Victoria Park, 3pm-5pm.

Sunday

Burghclere Miniature Railway Classic Car Show and running day, Sport & Social Club, Burghclere, 12noon-4pm. Cars and bikes on display and ejnjoy a ride on the miniature railway. Refreshments and bar.

Classic Corvette Club, Podium Place, Newbury, 10am-4pm. Cars & coffee.

Aldbourne car boot sale, Aldbourne Football Field, 10am-12noon. £5 per car and all money raised will go towards Aldbourne Youth Club. Sellers from 9.30am, buyers from 10am.

Concert raising funds for Ukraine, Brightwalton Church, 7pm. A mix of light classical and Eastern European music featuring Piotr Jordan, violinist from Lodz and cellist Chris Terepin. Refreshments available to purchase. Request for donations on the night.

Hungerford Town Band, Victoria Park Bandstand, Newbury, 3pm-5pm.

Artisan Market, Northbrook Street, Newbury, 10am-4pm.

Monday

To August 31, Summerfest of sustainable living, The Living Rainforest. Celebrate nature conservation and sustainable living with a host of indoor and outdoor activities. Plant and aimal talks, weekly green market, green jobs and careers fair, special guests, bee workshop and news on local conservation efforts.
