What's on in and around West Berkshire and North Hampshire : Tree planting, concerts and sustainable living market
If you're looking for something to do this weekend, volunteers are needed for tree planting or go to a concert and support our local orchestras.
Saturday 12
• Japanese Cherry Tree planting, 10am Meet at the teenage shelter along Pigeons Farm Road and close to the Diamond Playing field. Organised by Greenham Parish Council. Bring a spade and fork and wear gloves. Refreshments provided. All welcome.
• Growing Newbury Green, in partnership with Newbury in Bloom, community planting event, 10am. Help to create a new micro-orchard of six trees on the green space at Roebuts Close, Newbury. Local residents in the area are very welcome and anyone else who would like to join in helping to plant the trees. Bring gardening gloves and a spade – all other equipment will be provided.
• Beenham Wind Orchestra Spring Concert, St Mary’s Church, Thatcham, 7.30pm. Tickets: adults £12.50, under 18s free. Tickets can be reserved through BWOcontact@gmail.com
Sunday 13
• Kingsclere Sustainable Market, The Fieldgate Centre, 10am-12.30pm. Offering lower waste, more planet-friendly shopping alternatives and information. Reduce - Reuse - Refill - Recycle. A mix of new and returning stalls with a large variety of goods.
• Watership Brass, Church of the Ascension, Burghclere, 3pm. Featuring special guests Burghclere School Band. All ages welcome. Concert is free. Retirement collection in aid of Burghclere School Band and Watership Brass.
Monday 14
• Newbury National Trust Supporters’ Group, Deanwood Park Golf Club, Baydon Road, Stockcross, 7.30pm. Artist, illustrator and public speaker Heather Wylde talks about The Sewing Room, a ghost story. This tale of mystery and intrigue was found in her grandmother’s recently discovered journal, which was written in 1902 when she was just 20 years old and working in service as a dressmaker in a large Manor House in Kent. Non members and friends welcome: entrance £3.
Wednesday 16
• Newbury District Field Club, West Berkshire Museum, The Wharf, Newbury, 2pm. A talk on the Veness Sisters by Ros Clow.
