What to do in West Berkshire and North Hampshire: Newbury Fire Station open day, East Woodhay Flower Show and a Sunday Vegan Market
There's plenty of entertainment for the whole family this weekend.
Saturday
Newbury Fire Station Open Day, 10.30am-4.30pm. Practical demonstrations from crews and specialist vehicles from the service. Firefighters will be there to discuss what it’s like to be in the fire
service as well as what you can do to help stay safe and prevent fires. Guests will be able to have a go at certain activities and refreshments will be available on the day. Parking for the event will be at Hutton Close open space, directly opposite the fire station.
East Woodhay flower and produce show, East Woodhay village hall, 2pm. Plenty of refreshments and entertainment for all, including craft stalls, plants, a barbecue, teas and music
from East Woodhay Silver Band. The show will be opened by Lord and Lady Hamilton.
Rectory Close Jammers, Victoria Park Bandstand, Newbury, 3pm-5pm.
And Sunday, National Garden Scheme open garden, 1 Povey's Cottage, Stoney Heath, Baughurst, Tadley, 1pm-5pm. Herbaceous borders, trees and shrubs, a small orchard, greenhouses, fruit cage, vegetable garden and a small wildflower meadow area. Beehives in one corner of the garden and chickens in another corner. A feature of the garden is an unusual natural swimming pond. Homemade teas. Adults £4, children free.
Sunday
Vegan market, Market Place, Newbury,10am-3pm. Popular ethical and vegan bands pus vegan street food.

Shalbourne Gliding open day, 10am-4pm. No booking necessary – turn up and fly or just watch. Trial lesson flight at discounted Open Day price of £40. There is an upper weight limit of 16st (103kg); if taller than six foot four you may not fit in a glider. No catering at the airfield.
