What's on in West Berkshire this week




Friday

DJ Xchange, Corn Exchange, 9pm to 1am, £6 in advance, £8 on the door.

Local DJs will be taking to the decks for this dance event. DJs will be playing all genres - House, Drum & Bass, Jungle and more. There will be drinks available from the bar.

Saturday

V365 volunteering recruitment fair, Corn Exchange, 10am to 3pm.

A free event aimed at people interested in volunteering in the community. A whole host of local charities will be present at the event to discuss what they do and how you can be a part of it.

Quiz night, Wash Common Community Centre, 7.30pm, £6 per team.

Maximum five in a team. 100 question general knowledge quiz. Refreshments and raffle on the night. In aid of Maureen Church Fund, Victoria Ward, Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Sunday

Royal British Legion tea dance, Pelican Lane, Newbury, 1.30pm to 4pm.

Ballroom, sequence and Latin dancing. All welcome. Admission £3.

Monday

Charity coffee morning, Renegade Brewery, Yattendon, 11am to 5pm.

The brewery is hosting a coffee morning to help raise awareness for Samaritans. Everyone is welcome – dogs included – to enjoy a free tea or coffee with donations welcomed in return for handmade sweet treats.

Thames Valley Police 'Have Your Say' meeting, Shaw-cum-Donnington Village Hall, Love Lane, 6.45pm to 7.45pm.

Come along and speak with our local neighbourhood Police team to raise any concerns you may have. Speeding will be one of the items on the agenda.

Tuesday

Before the Conquest: The Newbury Area in the Anglo-Saxon Period, West Berkshire Museum, 1.30pm - 3.30pm, 8 weeks from January 17 (excluding February half term holiday of February 14) until March 14.

Anglo-Saxon cemeteries, the origin of local place-names, the growth of Christianity, and the Newbury area in the immediately pre-Conquest period will be among the topics in this 8-week course. Course tutor Dr David Peacock has researched, written about and taught the history of West Berkshire and the Newbury area for many years. £85.

Wednesday

Tony Christie concert, Arlington Arts Centre, 8pm, £25.

Tony will be performing a special, one-off show to help raise funds for READ College.
