What's on in West Berkshire today (Saturday)




THE first Saturday in October sees plenty of activities taking place across West Berkshire making sure you're kept entertained.

There is Newbury Apple Day in Market Place from 9am to 4pm where you can take your own crop of apples and watch the fresh juice being squeezed out as well as apple-themed competitions for children.

Picture This! The public are encouraged to meet in Newbury Market Place from 10am to 5pm to paint a picture or take a photograph of Newbury. All pictures will be displayed at Ace Space, tomorrow (Sunday) from 2pm.

Kennet Shopping Centre will be hosting the Spirals Craft Market running from 10am to 4pm.

Pangbourne Quality Market will be held at the village hall, 10am until 4pm. Free admission.

There will be a Craft and Gift Fair at St George the Martyr Church, Andover Road, Wash Common, from 10am until 3.30pm. There is free parking with entry costing 50p for adults while children go free.

The Cotton Reel Club Clinic will be holding a drop-in session at the Old Chapel Textile Centre in New Greenham Business Park from 10am until 2pm. Entry costs £2.50 including tea.

The West Berkshire Ramblers Weekend Walks will be meeting in the car park of Padworth Village Hall (GR SU607676) at 10am, for a 4.5-mile canal-side walk to Ufton Bridge, returning by footpaths via Aldermaston Wharf.

There will be a free guided trailer ride, with four speakers, at Hungerford Portdown Common, at 10am til noon. Contact 07932 322163 to reserve your place.

Fans of beer and ale will be in their element with the seventh Bucklebury Beerfest at Bucklebury Village Recreation Ground, from noon til 6pm. Includes the Bucklebury Fun Dog Show. Free entry. www.bucklebury.beer

Running till November 5 the Tides of Change exhibition will be held in the Old Chapel Textile Centre, New Greenham Business Park. The exhibition is open Tuesday to Thursday, 10am until 4pm (first Tuesday of the month 10am until 9pm and first Saturday of the month 10am until 4pm).

Youngsters can enjoy Storytime at Newbury Library from 2.30pm until 3pm where there will be free stories for under fives.

Liberty Newbury will be hosting its Live Band Night in the Liberty Ballroom, New Greenham Business Park, from 6pm until 1am. Tickets £10.

And the Apollo Big Band will be performing at the Corn Exchange, 7.45pm.
