‘Twas the weekend before Christmas… and plenty to do in West Berkshire today.

At Newbury’s St Nicolas Church there will be an open day for those wishing to learn more about the Newbury place of worship between 11am and 4pm.

At night from 7pm the church will be hosting a family carol service in preparation for Christmas Day which is only a few days away.

At Shaw House from 7.30pm there will be a Victorian Christmas Show with tickets priced £12 for adults and £5 for children under 16.

Tickets are available from the Newbury Visitor Information Centre and Shaw House.

Another Christmas party will be held at ACE Space at St Nicholas Road from 7.30pm until 11pm.

The “Xmas Bash” is priced at £8 with tickets available on the door or at Hogans Music.

The evening features a seasonal interactive variety party with music, comedy, games, poetry, sketches, a quiz, a whiskey rolling competition, pathetic decorations and some surprises.

For a gentler afternoon, West Berkshire Ramblers are meeting at 10.30am in the public car park at Hungerford railway station ahead of a 4-mile walk.

Their regular walk will take those interested in taking part across field paths in the direction of Standen Manor. Grid reference for the walk start is: SU339685.
