Fun packed family fun at Stockcross festival

Fun packed family fun continues at Stockfest, in Stockcross today (Sunday), with plenty else to do in Newbury and beyond, including rambles, or a charity fundraising visit to scenic Hungerford gardens.

The Stockfest continues with chance to catch the scarecrow trail through Stockcross village, and take part in visitors' nominations for the choice of best scarecrow 2015, on a theme of fictional characters, with trail maps available from the village shop.

At 11am, a fun dog and puppy show takes place at Stockcross recreation ground, cost £2 entry per class, entries on the gate.

From 5pm onwards, at Rookwood House, spread out a picnic on the lawns and soak up the atmosphere, with music by Rev Ferriday and the Longdogs and Jenifer Wren and The Songbirds, cost £5 without a wristband, buy online at www.stockfest.co.uk, or on the door.

Elsewhere, in Hungerford, from 11am to 4pm, Littlecote House is taking part in the charity fundraising National Garden Scheme, Entry £4, adults only. Cream teas.

Set against the picturesque Grade I listed house, with views of the Kennet Valley, and chance to visit the rose and herb gardens, admire the artistry of clipped yew and boxed hedging, or visit the courtyard and charming potting shed shop.

For a leg stretching breath of fresh air, West Berkshire Ramblers set off at 10am from Station Road, Great Shefford, for a leisurely four mile walk via Doldridge Wood, Royal Green Border, Elton Farm and the Lambourn Valley Way.

Alternatively, the ramblers will meet at 9.15am in Newbury wharf, before a car share to Abingdon, for a 7.9 mile walk to the village of Sutton Courtenay, returning along the Thames Path.
