What's On Sunday
In case you weren’t aware Christmas is fast approaching and there is a wealth of festive activities on offer across the district this Sunday.
Thatcham is going Santa crazy with hundreds expected to turn out and run for a range of charities, dressed as the man in the red and white.
Last year’s jolly joggers raised £3,200 and there are still some spots for runners wishing to take part on the day.
Standard entry is £15, students aged under 18 £10 and children under eight £7. All entrants receive a free Santa suit to wear and keep. The race starts at 11am at The Broadway with registration at 9am.
Newbury town centre will also light up the night for its sixth annual Festival of Light lantern procession.
Organised by the Corn Exchange and funded by Greenham Common Trust and Arts Council England, the festival has become a regular part of Newbury’s festive calendar.
Last year’s parade saw hundreds of spectators and for full coverage and pictures see next week’s Newbury Weekly News.
In Thatcham, a Christmas bazaar will be held at the Kennet Leisure Centre, to raise funds for Royal Berkshire Hospital after a local family sought to repay hospital staff after their 12-year old daughter Freya Deacon was cared for there following a car accident.
The charity event between 10am and 1pm will include a bouncy caste and children’s games alongside a raffle and refreshments with money raised going to their cause.
There is also a Christmas concert with Dirkjan at the William Penney Theatre at AWE Aldermaston at 3pm, tickets priced £6.50 on the door.
Thatcham mayor’s civic carol service also starts at 4pm at St Mary’s Church with free entry and a retiring collection in aid of the mayor’s charities – HomeStart West Berkshire and Thatcham Volunteer Bureau.
