What's on this Sunday

The fifth annual festival of light lantern procession shines into Newbury this afternoon and promises a host of specially crafted paper lanterns for what promises to be a spectacular display at Market Place.
There will also be workshops at the Corn Exchange open to the public to learn about how to make your own lantern and will include the “lantern making for the brave” where members of the community can embark on a bigger lantern making project with the help of specialist artists to be displayed at the procession.
Hundreds of lantern makers will then gather at 4pm before making their way in procession from the Methodist Church on Northbrook Street, to Market Place in the town centre.
In Thatcham the Christmas market will be unwrapped this Sunday for the community to pick up an array of seasonal gifts from stalls run by local people, organisations and charities.
Stalls on offer include Heartstart Thatcham with arts and crafts, Girl Guides selling “reindeer food” and “snowman soup”, and St Mary’s Church with CAMEO calendars and cake pops made by Popadoodledo.
The market will be held in The Broadway Green between 10am and 1pm, for more information call 01635 863592 or email

The mayor of Thatcham Gary Johnson is also inviting the local community to a carol service to be held at St Mary’s Church at 4pm with all donations going to the West Berkshire Therapy Centre and Rainbow Room at West Berkshire Community Hospital.
At Englefield there will be a festive wreath making workshop giving the opportunity to create your own unique wreath under the guidance of tutor Pam Goddard who will be teaching how to harvest and weave English willow and a range of natural materials to decorate your wreath.
The cost is £13 per person and includes all materials, a hot drink and a mince pie, and there are two two-hour slots, one at 10am and the second at midday.
And finally, have you ever wanted to hug a husky? At The Kennet Shopping Centre today you can have that chance – at Newbury’s shopping centre real life huskies will be sharing Christmas cheer and offering visitors the chance for a hug and a snapshot.
