National Scout & Guide Symphony Orchestra, St Nicolas' Church, Newbury, 7.30pm. Following a week of intensive rehearsals, trips and other activities for the 65 young players, including three from Berkshire, all members of either The Scout Association or Girlguiding UK, their

combined talents will build into a crescendo with a public performance. The music to be played will include the Borodin Symphony No. 2, Brahms' Academic Overture, Bach's Toccata & Fugue in D min, and Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance No.1 (which includes Land of Hope and Glory). Saturday, August 6:

SATA allotment open day, Southby Allotments, Greenham Road, (opposite Stroud Green), noon to 3pm. A chance to see the largest allotment in West Berkshire. On sale will be fresh

produce, home-made baked goods, local honey and free range eggs. There will also be a barbecue, tombola and raffles, face painting, plus other attractions. Half the money raised will
