Friday
Organ Recital, St Matthew's Church, Midgham, 6.30pm. Given by Roger Judd MVO of St Laurence Ludlow and formerly of St George’s Chapel Windsor. To include pieces by Gade, Gibbons, Festing, Wesley, Mozart, Mendlessohn and JS Bach. Admission free.
Saturday
Romans Family Fun Day at Shaw House, 10am to 3pm. Drop-in and meet the historical re-enactors from Butser IX Legion in period costume who will tell you about life in Roman Britain, as well as demonstrate skills that you can have a go at. There will be an opportunity to take part in Roman-inspired crafts and activities as well as to complete a themed trail. Free admission.
History Day: For the Public Good, St Nicholas’ Church Hall, 10am-4.30pm. A series of talks on topics related to fulfilling the needs of the people. To include local almshouses, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, social housing in Newbury, supporting the poor before 1834 and Newbury hospitals. Tickets available here
Kingsclere Photo Club 15th annual exhibition, Kingsclere Village Club, 10am-5pm on Saturday and 11am-4pm on Sunday. Exhibition of work from at least 24 members, plus guest photographers from the twin-village of Cormicy, France. Free entry.
The Big Thatcham Fest-Off, Thatcham High Street, 5pm-9pm. The High Street will be closed to traffic. Stage with live music including the West Berkshire Rock Choir and local band Beyond the Sons. There will also be a range of street food stalls and an African drumming workshop. Free admission.
Sunday
Amazing Autumn Newbury Tea Dance, Shaw Social Club, 2pm-5pm. Fabulous music with Kerrin, friendly dancers and unlimited tea and cake. £10 admission.
Thursday
Charity coffee morning, St Nicholas’ Church Hall, 10am-noon. In aid of Biojemmss, a charity supporting vulnerable children and families in Uganda. Stalls will include cakes, bric a brac and tombola. The founder and CEO of Biojemmss, Sian Ball, hopes to attend.
Robert Harris in conversation, Thatcham Town Football Club, 7pm-9pm. The critically-acclaimed and bestselling writer will be discussing his new book Act of Oblivion.
