PEOPLE in Cold Ash are invited to celebrate their parish history this weekend.

The parish and St Mark's Church will be commemorating 150 years of village life with a parade of the decades on Saturday. Families will carry the celebration baton for each decade spanning the creation of the parish in 1865 – making it older than Germany, which unified in 1871 – to the present day.

And the moment will be captured for future generations when a village photograph will be taken at 2.30pm. This will be followed by villagers recording their hand prints for the Make your Mark for St Mark’s commemorative display.

People are invited to bring picnics and make the day into a true community event for families to look back on.

Joint organiser Rachel Quartley said that she wanted people to be a part of the village activities and of their community.

On Sunday, people can learn more about the history of Cold Ash on a heritage trail from 2pm until 4.30pm.

The walk starts at the Fisher Room at St Mark’s Church where maps and a children’s quiz will also be available.

COLD Ash Brass will perform on the playing fields at St Mark’s School, together with singers David Stephenson and Val MacFarlane, on Saturday, and in honour of the date the band will incorporate a selection of music marking American Independence Day.

People are invited to bring a picnic and chairs and to sit back and enjoy the music, with the recently-formed Cold Ash Community Band performing a warm-up set before the main event.

A bar will be provided courtesy of the Castle pub and parking will be available at the school.
