What's on today (Sunday)
This 13th century music drama in a new version by Edward Lambert tells the biblical story of Daniel: the writing on the wall at Belshazzar’s feast, Daniel’s rise to power, his fall at the hands of conspirators who cast him into the lions’ den.
What is not so well-known is this marvellous work written for the post-Christmas festivities known as the Feast of Fools; with its catchy tunes and rousing choruses it fully deserves to be called the world’s earliest surviving opera. This modern but respectful rendition - accompanied by a jazz quartet - aims to recreate some of the excitement of its first performance by the students and scholars of Beauvais Cathedral nearly 800 years ago. Family friendly. Lasts about 55 mins. A rare semi-staged performance, not to be missed.
