What's on today (Sunday)
Why not dig out your running shoes from the bottom of the closet this afternoon and come along to cheer the runners of an alternative marathon to the big London run in… Lambourn.
After six regular runners at the villages sports centre had their entry to Sunday’s London run rejected they decided to set up their own in West Berkshire.
Jason Cooke, Sarah Johnstone, Natalie Ratcliffe, Kathryn Green, Marc Beales and sports centre manager Rose Metalli are going to spend eight hours non-stop rowing, cycling and running in a marathon event of their own at the Lambourn Centre.
They have set themselves a tough target; dividing into two teams, each team of three will collectively complete 100,000 metres on the rowing machine, 120 miles on the indoor cycle, and 45 miles on the treadmill, and will be raising money for Cancer Research, and supporters are welcome to attend.
St George’s Day is also being belatedly celebrated as a parade organised by the Scouts marches from 1pm from Newbury’s Market Place before moving along Northbrook Street through Parkway and finally to Victoria Park.
The park will be hosting a number of activities at the park for the free afternoon event.
After a quarter of a century of being the Hungerford Royal British Legion’s rallying emblem its standard is to be layed up and a new one dedicated.
The service and dedication will be held at St Lawrence Church in Hungerford at 3pm with music provided by the Hungerford Town Band.
