Family fun around the district

Newbury Carnival. The parade begins at 2pm in the town centre, finishing in Park Way. The carnival fete runs, in Victoria Park, from 12pm until 6pm. Free entry to both.

Hungerford Town Band will be playing at the Bandstand in Victoria Park from 3pm until 5pm.

Newbury District Ornothological Club will enjoy a morning walk on the downs above Combe for special downland birds. Meet at Lower Farm, Combe, at 8am.

West Berkshire Ramblers weekend walk at 9.30am.

Meet in the George Lane car park, Marlborough (grid ref SU188688) for a 10.5-mile walk following the Wessex Ridgeway to Manton and Fyfield Downs before reaching the villages of Fyfield, Clatford and Manton. Takes the White Horse Trail back to Marlborough.

Butterflies at fence Wood, Hermitage, from 10.30am until 12.30pm. Walk of about 2km, suitable for all the family. Free entry. Park at the end of a trackway on the east side of Slanting Hill.

The 6th annual Summer Fayre at Mary Hare Grammar School, Snelsmore Common, Newbury, from 12pm until 4.30pm. More than 40 stalls for all the family. £1 entry for adults, 50p children and OAPs, under threes, free.

Summer Serenade at St George’s Church, Andover Road, Newbury, from 3.30pm. Tickets £8, including refreshments. Proceeds to the church’s environment project. More details and advance booking from Helen Tuck on 01635 45978 or at the door.

Tea and Cake Concert with Pavlova Wind Quintet, featuring Ian Brown, from 4pm at the Old Bluecoat School, Thatcham. Tickets priced £10 adults, £5 children, available from Newbury Building Society, High Street, Thatcham, or at the door.
