Thames Valley Kings wheelchair basketball club volunteer recognised by the Royal Voluntary Service with Platinum Jubilee award
A trustee of a West Berkshire wheelchair basketball club has been named as one of the Royal Voluntary Service’s 490 platinum champions awards winners.
Peter Scoins has fulfilled a wide variety of volunteer roles during his time at the Thames Valley Kings wheelchair basketball club, Berkshire’s oldest competitive club of its kind.
The platinum champions awards were an official jubilee project that sought to celebrate outstanding volunteers across the country who make a daily difference to the lives of those they help.
Mr Scoins said: “I am deeply honoured to have been named a platinum champion; recognition like this is always fantastic.
“However, I also feel I need to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of everyone at the Thames Valley Kings and a huge thank you to our club members who make this club so fantastic.”
Known to many as Petey, Mr Scoins has put in work behind the scenes working with the Kings’ social media, marketing and helping to fundraise for the club, which is completely made up of volunteers.
He has also been involved in more visible work on the side lines coaching, mentoring and producing match day live-streaming and commentary. At times he has even worn the club’s mascot outfit!
All the platinum champions, including Mr Scion, received a specially designed pin and a signed certificate from Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, who presided over the judging panel which chose the 490 award recipients.
