Books of condolence –where you can sign in West Berkshire
West Berkshire Council has published a list of where people can sign books of condolence.
- Council Offices, Market Street, Newbury – available until Friday (September 16
- Shaw House, Church Road, Newbury - available until Sunday (September 18) and available between 9am and 5.30pm on Monday to Friday and between 11am and 4pm a the weekend
- Hungerford Library – available until Saturday (September 17)
- Thatcham Library – available until Saturday (September 17)
- Theale Library – available until Saturday (September 17)
- Mobile Library – available until Friday (September 16)
- Newbury Town Council – available between 10am and 4pm until Saturday (September 17)
Unless otherwise stated, books of condolence will be available during normal opening hours.
Churches in villages across West Berkshire and North Hampshire, including the one above in Yattendon, have also opened their doors to the public during this time. Books of condolence are also available for the public to sign in a number of them, including St Mary’s Church in Thatcham, which will be open to anyone who wishes to write a message in its book of condolence.
Books are also open in St Mary's Church in Chieveley, St Mary’s Church in Hampstead Norreys, St Mary’s Church in Hamstead Marshall, St Denys Church in Stanford Dingley, Holy Trinity Church in Theale and in the Holy Trinity Church in Hermitage.
Burghfield’s St Mary’s Church will be open throughout the ten days of mourning and also has a book of condolences for people to leave their messages.
St Peter’s Church in Brimpton will be open every day until the funeral, from 9am to 6pm, for people to sign the village's book of condolence.
In Hampshire, a book is open in the Church of the Ascension in Burghclere, as well as in St Mary’s, Tadley.
Books of Condolence will be kept by West Berkshire Council as a historical record of this national event. A copy is expected to also be sent to Buckingham Palace.
An e-book of condolence on the Royal Family website is also available for residents who would prefer to pay their respects online.
Residents wanting to lay flowers in memory of Her Majesty are asked to do so outside Newbury Town Hall in Market Place, Newbury.
Cards can be left with the flowers but the council asks that wrapping is not included with the flowers. It is also asking people not to bring candles or other items.
All cards and notes left with flowers will be scanned and kept with the books of condolence.
In the interests of safety the council is asking people to go and place their tribute during the day. Stewards may be on hand to supervise the tribute and provide assistance to members of the public.
