Whitchurch Bridge re-opening delayed by three months

The 111-year-old privately owned toll bridge closed for repair works in October last year and was initially set to re-open on April 14.
However, high water levels on the River Thames has delayed the work and contractors Balfour Beatty has informed the Whitchurch Bridge Company that the bridge is likely to re-open in July, although no definitive date has been announced at this stage.
Chairman of the Whitchurch Bridge Company, Mike Beckley said: “The Company very much regrets the inconvenience that the delay to the re-opening will cause to local residents, residents on the diversionary routes and local businesses. We will continue to press Balfour Beatty to complete the works as soon as possible”.
The announcement is set to add to the fears of businesses in Pangbourne who have reported a loss in trade since the bridge closed.
