Winchcombe School's got rhythm

Defibrillator and drums funded through PTA

PUPILS at The Winchcombe School, Newbury, have been benefiting from different beats thanks to the hard work of fundraisers.

The Maple Crescent school has invested in a defibrillator, a life-saving device which shocks the heart when someone goes into cardiac arrest.

Pupils have also been working on their rhythm after the school purchased steel drums for them to practice on.

Funds for the drums and device were raised through the school’s parent teacher association, the Friends of The Winchcombe School, with donations from parents and friends and school events. The association presented a cheque to headteacher Angela Hay last week.

Mrs Hay said: “We are always thankful for the generous support of our parents and for the hard work and commitment of The Friends of The Winchcombe School.

“We are delighted to receive £2,200 towards our steel pans, the school panto and defibrillator. This will make a real difference to our children, enriching their experience and enhancing our provision.”

The chairwoman of The Friends of The Winchcombe School in the 2014-2015 academic year, Tracy Benning, said: “I would like to thank all the parents and school staff who have helped make this possible. Their support has really made a difference.

“I wish the new committee the best of luck for 2016.”

The school ordered the defibrillator from Primary Care Supplies which was offering discounts for schools following a Government initiative to install the life-saving equipment.

The school said that the device was ideal as it is easy to use and has a button to switch from an adult to child patient.
