Winterbourne Arms to reopen as restaurant
The Winterbourne Arms in Winterbourne is to finally re-open.
The former pub is undergoing a complete transformation and will return as the Damson Restaurant next Easter.
It is now under the management of Henry Kremer-Ireson, of Henry & Joe’s restaurant in Cheap Street, Newbury, which closed in August.
The building’s history dates back more than 300 years and it once served as a bakery, but closed down in 2017.
Former owner Nicholas Roffe purchased the pub in 2018 and tried unsuccessfully to develop the site into housing, despite assurances from the previous landlord the inn would reopen.
Jill Hoblin, from the ‘Save the Winterbourne Arms’ campaign, said: “We have battled for over four years to keep the pub from being converted into houses.
“The pub has been purchased by a chef that has a great reputation and following in Newbury.
“We are thrilled and look forward to hearing more about his plans.”
