Withdrawal of grant sees six Newbury bus routes terminated





It follows the non-renewal of a grant, previously provided by the Community Transport Association to West Berkshire Council.
This Sunday (May 18) will be the final time that Sunday routes 2,(Newbury, Wash Common , Pinchington Lane, Pigeons Farm, Greenham, Newbury), 5 (Newbury, Speen, Western Avenue, Newbury) and 8 (Newbury, Greenham, Pinchington Lane Tesco, Wash Common, Newbury) will run.
Route 55, which connects Newbury with Pound Lane and Benham Hill, will terminate on Friday (May 23).
Routes 5 and 5A, which travel from Newbury to Walton Way, Love Lane, Speen, Western Avenue, Almond Avenue and back to Newbury, will terminate on Saturday, May 24.
Operator Go-Ride, has said it cannot afford to continue offering the service without funding from the grant.
West Berkshire Council is providing a replacement route, to run twice a day, Monday to Friday, leaving Newbury bus station at 11.50am and 2.40pm.
It will stop at Park Way, Walton Way, Love Lane, Dene Way, Donnington Priory, Sutton Road, Coxeter Road, Western Avenue at Benedict Court, Castle Grove, Almond Avenue and Dolman Road before heading back to Park Way and the bus station.
Passengers from Speen could catch Newbury and District service 4 or from Love Lane the Newbury and District service 107 or the 6 or 6A service along Oxford Road or Shaw Hill.
Passengers in Walton Way could catch the Jetblack service in Kiln Road.
People who boarded the 55 service in Benham Hill for Newbury are advised of three nearby bus stops, at the Garden Centre roundabout, the Hambridge Road junction and at West Berkshire Community Hospital.
