Witnesses sought after fatal crash on A34

Police urge anyone who saw a collision between two coaches and a car yesterday morning (Friday) to contact them

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision involving two coaches and a car on the A34 near Litchfield yesterday (Friday).

Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that the woman who died in the accident, which occurred at around 11.45am, was an 81-year-old from High Wycombe who had been the front seat passenger in the car.

The car was a silver Vauxhall Meriva and was driven by an elderly man who was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Two other people were treated at the scene, but did not require hospital treatment.

Both of the single decker coaches remained at the scene and both sets of passengers were able to continue on their way using alternative transport, said police.

Part of the A34 was closed in both directions to allow an air ambulance to land after the incident, although this was not required and the northbound carriageway re-opened a short while later. The A34 was fully re-opened just after 5pm.

Any witnesses who were travelling along the A34 between Whitchurch and Tot Hill at around 11.45am yesterday are urged to contact Acting Sergeant Steve Antrobus, of Whitchurch Roads Policing Unit, on 101 or 0845 0454545, quoting Operation Glassline.
