Witnesses sought for distraction burglaries in West Berkshire

Police warning over distraction burglaries in Thatcham and Theale and thefts from vans in Hungerford and Calcot

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to two distraction burglaries and a spate of thefts from vans in West Berkshire recently.

On Sunday, January 15, two distraction burglaries took place in Thatcham and Theale respectively.

The incident in Thatcham took place at Gilbert Court, Bath Road when two offenders gained entry by stating that they had come to check on the pressure of the water supply.

After the men had left the victim discovered that money had been stolen from her purse.

A second incident took place on the same day at about 6.30pm in Playplatt, Theale.

Two people knocked on the door claiming that they were investigating 'electrical burnout'.

After they had left, however, the victim discovered cash was missing from her handbag.

A witnessed stated that they had seen a light coloured, possibly silver, Vauxhall Vectra Estate driving away from the scene.

A spate of thefts from vans have also recently occurred in the Calcot area on Tuesday, January 17, and also in HUngerford overnight on January 18 and 19, with two in Priory Road, one in Clarks Gardens and one in Atherton Crescent.

The offenders gained entry by forcing the locks or breaking a window and stole tools.

Anyone with information about any of the incidents should contact the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 11 1
