Reading Magistrates' Court: Thatcham woman accused of defying coronavirus lockdown rules

A WOMAN has been accused of breaking coronavirus regulations at a private home gathering.

Rebecca Lyn Smith, known as Becky, appeared for a preliminary hearing at Reading Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, November 10.

The 35-year-old, of The Haywards, Thatcham, is accused of participating, without reasonable excuse, in a gathering of two or more people indoors in a Tier 4 area of Thatcham, namely at a specific address in William Close, on Saturday, February 27.

The offence is contrary to the Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) Regulations 2020.

Ms Smith pleaded not guilty to the single charge.

She was told that the case could proceed no further that day and magistrates adjourned it for a trial.

Ms Smith was meanwhile released on unconditional bail.
