Woman and child seriously injured in another multi-vehicle crash on the A34
HGV and 7 cars involved with police appeal for witnesses
POLICE have appealed for witnesses following another serious multi-vehicle crash on the A34 yesterday (Thursday).
A woman and child were taken to hospital with serious injuries, following the crash, involving a heavy goods vehicle and seven cars and a man has been arrested.
Thursday's crash comes as safety on the A34 is under the spotlight following a string of fatal crashes in the last six months including the multi-vehicle crash on August 10 which claimed the lives of a mother and three children. Just days after the horrific crash, an action group was set up to campaign for safety improvements on the road and held its first meeting in East Ilsley.
Thames Valley Police (TVP) has issued an appeal, after Thursday's 7.30pm collision on the northbound carriageway of the A34 at Hinksey Hill, Oxford.
A 31-year-old woman and a child, who had been travelling in one of the cars, sustained serious injuries and were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where they remain in a critical but stable condition.
The northbound carriageway was closed while the emergency services attended the scene and has since reopened.
A 58-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and is currently in custody.
Investigating officer, Insp Gavin Biggs, of the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing, said:
"If you witnessed this incident, or were travelling on the northbound carriageway and saw something you believe is relevant to our investigation, please contact Thames Valley Police on 101 and quote URN 1440 25/8."
