Woman attacked in Tilehurst

Victim was grabbed from behind and pulled to the ground during the ordeal

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman in Tilehurst was attacked by a man who grabbed her and forced her to the ground on Wednesday (May 18).

The incident occurred at about 10.25am in the area around Oak View, when the 34-year-old woman was approached from behind by a man.

The attacker grabbed the victim's arms, forced her to the ground and landed on top of her.

The woman screamed loudly and the offender ran off through alleyways leading to either Downing Road or Beverley Road.

The victim was not injured during the incident.

The offender is white, aged between 40 and 50-years-old, with a medium build, about 5ft 9ins tall with receding fair and mousey hair which may have been greying.

He was wearing a white short sleeved England rugby shirt with the English red rose on the left breast area, and denim stone washed knee length shorts. He also had gold rimmed tinted aviator style glasses.

PC Ian McCarthy, who is leading the investigation, said: “The alleyways used by the offender suggest he has some local knowledge and may well live nearby.

“I am appealing for witnesses or anyone who saw a man fitting the description in the area before hand or running away from the scene after to contact police.”

Anyone with information about the above incident should call Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505 and ask to speak to PC McCarthy.
