Reading Magistrates' Court: Burghfield Common woman is rail cheat




A WOMAN has been landed with a hefty bill for trying to cheat on her rail fare.

Bethany Montague was due in the dock at Reading Magistrates' Court on Friday, May 27, to answer the charge.

But she did not show up; the case went ahead in her absence and was found proved.

Specifically, the 22-year-old of Lamden Way, Burghfield Common, was convicted of travelling on a Great Western Railway (GWR) service at Reading on December 13 last year without having paid her £6.45 fare, and with the intention of dodging that payment

Ms Montague was fined £220.

In addition, she was ordered to pay £180 costs, plus a statutory victim services surcharge of £34.

Finally, Ms Montague was ordered to pay GWR £6.45 for the lost fare.
